Our Vision

Scientific evidence has revealed many facts that have informed us about the history of our planet earth going back 12 million years. We now know that the ancestors of all modern people were Africans, who did not make decisions to get up and leave Africa, but continued to develop and evolve into the many wonderful Nations that we now recognise as Africa. But if we take a closer look at the economic indices of the current African countries; it tells a disappointing story, so what went wrong?

Before the invention of the written word, traditional societies used music, folklore and festivals to record and transmit information and to mark notable events. Vital traditions and customs were handed down through the generations using this now almost outdated method of communication. However close examination of the DNA of people today reveals that we all carry inside us a kind of “living fossil” that opens a window on our past…

the weak are meat...

Indigenous music and culture, a link to our past, are being lost because the present generation have no interest in them. It doesn’t have the cool factor they seek and they can’t connect to the art form or the stories they tell. Regrettably, they are leaving behind their history and cultural backgrounds into the thoughtless consumption and adoption of foreign cultures that cannot fulfil their needs. Young music artistes today do not tell their own stories. They don’t even sing in their own voices!

The people, their music, their culture and their politics are all connected. A weak link, and the chain breaks....

Information Technology has enabled some forceful cultures to propagate their views and stories across the world. Weaker cultures could then start to be consumed or disappear altogether. While “the weak are meat and the strong do eat”, this ideology does not need to be the case. We need to awaken our resolve and stay true to our essence and cultural history. We can embrace information technology and all it has to offer, but let us use it wisely to tell our stories!

WaffiVibes is a journey

Waffivibes has been established to showcase and promote indigenous music. We will celebrate our culture and thus preserve our cultural identity. The meanings of our traditional ways, customs, and festivals will be learned and understood. We will seek our heritage in our: indigenous music, folklore, traditions, customs, festivals, traditional marriages, old courthouses, the shrines of our departed and in faraway lands; and we will successfully piece together our vital history.
